BU was hampered in the 90s by poor leadership, and under right management is growing quickly. Just how great the school is in terms of living in the city and at the school seems to be a well-kept secret outside of the Northeast. Its not MIT or Harvard, but if you want a great education and want to feel like an independent adult living in the city, Boston University is for you. Its expensive, but then again that is one of the first lessons about living in the city. Everything is expensive. But if you have the grades, the school will provide.
