With the amount of scholarship money that I received, I am actually paying less than what I would have had to pay at a UC. I had a difficult time choosing which college to attend (it came down to UO, three mid-tier UC's, and a few other out of state publics), but I'm really glad that I went with my instincts. U of O just felt right when I toured the campus, interacted with students, and sat in on a class.

That's not to say that Oregon is the perfect college. The weather was definitely an adjustment for me, seeing as how I am a Southern California native. The rain actually wasn't much of a problem for me. The winter was a little colder than I expected. I learned how to layer, a concept that not many California kids are familiar with.

Some of the dorms are quite small and old, but from what I've heard, the school has already addressed this issue and has begun construction on a new dorm complex that will resemble the LLC.

I've made some fabulous friends here and taken some very interesting classes (folklore!). For the most part, my professors have been very good, but you definitely have to seek them out. Generally, professors are very helpful and accommodating if you make the effort to meet with them during office hours and display a genuine interest in the course material, not just your grade.

I like that the Greek system does not dominate the social scene. Apparently this is a problem, as some of my friends have experienced this at other large public schools.

questionHow did you get so much scholarship money going out of state? I am in the same predicament and think UC will continue to go downhill due to CA budgetary problems.
