Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
The only good part about RPI is Student Life and the Union. There are tons of clubs, and tons of stuff to do in the Union and with student activities. Everything else is quite terrible. Despite paying top dollar to come here, most of the professors are over-involved in their research, and find teaching to be a drag. Therefore, the majority of the professors here are sub-par and you're left to figure everything out on your own. There are tons of professors who don't speak english very well either. The best instructors have been Adjuncts, who are here because they love to teach and not research. RPI responded to this by firing them all, and only having researchers. The best professors I've had have been adjuncts, and now all that's left is crap. There is a huge disconnect between the administration and the student body. The president, Shirley Ann Jackson sits on her high horse and is not accessible, and never around. The Board of Trustees have no idea what's going on throughout the campus, and the school wastes HUGE amounts of money (in the BILLIONS of dollars) on useless new buildings, while they let their old buildings fall apart. Jackson is the highest paid university president as of last year, but she's never around. Yes, she brings in a lot of money, but the school spends it all and may have put themselves into debt because of it. Like I said, the only good thing about this school is Student Life, which you pay $550 a year for. The $50,000+ for tuition and overpriced room and board is a complete waste. You're better off going somewhere else.
