The university is run as a business; the students are merely a source of revenue. Students are treated by the administration like little children, who must be watched and controlled at all times and should never be trusted by the monstrously large bureaucracy. Instead of helping student groups organize events, they comb through the enormous stack of paperwork you have to fill out looking for ways to get you in trouble. I am not exaggerating. It has taken a lot of effort to find any classes as challenging as the classes at my public high school. That is particularly disappointing because some of the faculty are really excellent; they just feel like they have to teach down to the class (sadly, they probably do). Most students give the impression that they are here for a degree, not an education. That being said, I have managed to find a few very good classes (I can speak only for CAS- the other schools are different. For example, I hear that engineering classes are quite difficult here.)If you want to go to a college where the students are interested in their classes and want to learn, this is not the place for you. If you want to be challenged academically, this is not the place for you. If you want to feel like your school cares about your quality of life and happiness, this is not the place for you. But if you want to live in a nice city for four years and get a degree by doing a moderate amount of busywork, you should check it out.
