Date: Mar 21 2006 Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time) BU is an outstanding academic institution—period.I am frequently amused by critics who try to demean the school's accomplishments. Because they simply can't give credit where it is due, their criticisms often come off as churlish. Despite all of BU's supposed weaknesses, it is still ranked 60th out of over 350 reputable insitutions nationwide. Imagine if BU alumni donated more to the endowment? (No one discusses that Tufts endowment is much less). BU hasn't even peaked yet but BU's management school is top 50. The same for engineering. Law is 20th and medical school is 28th. Plus, BU competes with Harvard, MIT et cetera for the best faculty. Average student SATs are 1300s and climbing. BU garners over $ 250 million in research funding each year. Believe me, smart people who oversee these massive grants do not fork over huge sums of money if there is an absence of scholarship. Finally, BU's list of notable alums is impressive. Doug Flutie, while admittedly a great athlete, cannot claim the social contributions of say MLK. BU has a lot to be proud of. Rather than rely on clannish propaganda, BU actually teaches you to think independently and to question established thought. Choose the best school for you but please don't buy into the outright lies regarding BU. Good luck.
